Infiniti FX Sebastian Vettel Version will enter production

Interesting tidbit on the Infiniti FX Sebastian Vettel Version, the new Formula 1 double world champion’s take on the FX crossover, which raised a stir at the Frankfurt motor show last month.

Executive Vice President Andy Palmer, speaking in an interview with the Global Media Center  (see above), confirmed that the Vettel-inspired vehicle will enter production. This is what Andy said when I asked how the relationship between Infiniti and Vettel will proceed:

“Absolutely. First of all, doing the Sebastian Vettel Version was fun. It was fun for Sebastian, it was fun for Shiro Nakamura and actually it’s a really interesting car. But it’s also a kind of pilot for IPL, Infiniti Performance Line. It’s about being able to do our equivalent of AMG or M-series and we wanted to test the organization and can the organization cope we’ve these type of special versions. This is one of the first versions that will go to market. Not as an IPL—it’ll obviously go as the Sebastian Vettel special version, but it demonstrates we’re able to do these low volume, very special versions and be able to charge a premium for that kind of work. Again, hopefully, with Sebastian now the world champion, the demand for his special version is going to be that much higher.”

Incidentally, if you didn’t see our earlier heads up, Vettel, crowned world champion yesterday after his third place finish in the Japanese Grand Prix, is coming here later today.

If you can’t make it to Nissan’s global headquarters in Yokohama, we’ll be streaming live here from 14:00 JST onwards or 05:00 GMT. Vettel is set to meet the public in the Nissan Gallery from 15:45 JST (06:45 GMT).
