Nissan LEAF On the Road: Yokohama to Osaka

On a recent trip to Osaka for a ‘LEAF to Home’ event, where 250 of the zero-emission cars were made available for free to supply power to public and private users, a team from the Nissan Global Media Center in Yokohama thought the best way to get there was with the star of the show – the Nissan LEAF.

Earlier this year in March, the Media Center traveled in the northern Tohoku region in the LEAF when it was rather chilly, while this time the team went west with summer just around the corner.

Setting off from Nissan’s global headquarters in Yokohama, the team mapped out their route with the car’s navigation system, taking the Tomei Expressway through central Shizuoka, via Hamamatsu and Kyoto, then arriving in Osaka – as they live streamed the entire journey.

The team parked the LEAF for less than 30 mins at each point to recharge from 0 to 80% at quick chargers in service areas, just the right amount of time to have a cup of coffee or a meal and freshen up.

There are now quick chargers installed in all full-size service areas, approximately every 50 to 60 kilometers along the Tomei Expressway and Shin-Tomei Expressway since the end of March 2011.
