Aeon’s Electric NV

Following in the footsteps of Japan Post, FedEx and British Gas, Japanese supermarket operator Aeon took delivery of an e-NV200, the all-electric version of Nissan’s popular van on Tuesday.

Aeon will use the van to make deliveries ordered online for the next month, providing Nissan with valuable data on acceleration, deceleration and braking, as it prepares to expand zero-emission vehicles beyond the  flagship LEAF.

“We aim to find out optimal conditions for electric vehicles to be used for making deliveries,” Nissan Corporate Vice President Hideto Murakami said at the vehicle’s unveiling in Saitama. “Since this is an EV version of the NV200, we think it’s best suited for a vehicle making frequent stops and starts over a short distance–like a delivery car used by Aeon.”

As well as Nissan’s plans to begin mass production of an electric van, its luxury arm Infiniti showed the LE concept EV at the New York auto show last month, with a version slated sale in 2014.
