Oct. 16 – Franklin, Tenn. – Nissan is the only car company that fit-tests nearly one hundred different child safety seats in almost every vehicle it makes. The program runs now in the U.S. and Canada.
Each time a new car launches, a new “fit clinic” is held. The company then publishes the results online for consumers to review. This is part of Nissan’s Snug Kids® program, celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.
With Nissan launching five new models in 15 months, it is an extra busy time at the company for those in charge of car seat testing.
“Not every child safety seat fits in every vehicle and that’s why this is so important to Nissan,” said Bob Yakushi, Nissan’s director of Product Safety.
Yakushi said that Nissan’s Snug Kids program requires a serious investment in that Nissan engineers spend hundreds of hours testing the fit of child safety seats.
“We really feel that protecting what everyone considers their most precious cargo, children, to be so important that we have dedicated an engineering team in product safety to fit child safety seats to each one of our models,” said Yakushi.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, or NHTSA, more than 70 percent of child safety seats are not properly installed. Nissan’s Snug Kids program is meant to address this issue by helping them to first get a seat that fits in their vehicle properly.
