Shanghai welcomes Infiniti’s stretched M
There’s a lot going on at Infiniti.
Hot on the heels of the opening of a new global headquarters in Hong Kong last month and the announcement of a new chief on June 5, Nissan’s premium brand held a launch party in Shanghai on June 8 for the long-wheelbase version of its flagship Infiniti M sedan.
The lavish event demonstrates the importance of the new model in a country that dominates global demand for stretched versions of upscale sedans. It also emphasizes the vital role of China for Infiniti’s development and growth over the next few years.
Currently, the marque’s second-largest market after the U.S., the Middle Kingdom is central to Infiniti’s plans to triple sales to 500,000 by 2016.
As well as the opening of the new Hong Kong headquarters by CEO Carlos Ghosn, Infiniti also plans to begin local production in China as early as 2014 and add new models. The stretched Infiniti M – for now sold only in China – is another milestone.
