Venucia D50: First Drives
Chinese media got a taste of the Venucia D50 recently, driving the new brand’s first model in Yunnan province’s scenic Luoping county.
Organized by Dongfeng Nissan, three groups of media flew in for the driving event on roads flanked by fields of blooming yellow rapeseed flowers, from March 10-16.
“Venucia, the new brand from Dongfeng Nissan, should have the type of car models that are of high quality and suitable for the majority of consumers,” Ye Lei, deputy senior general manager of Dongfeng Nissan’s sales and marketing division, told media gathered at the event.
Southwest China proved to have the perfect topography for putting the D50 through its paces.
Over two days, media were able to test the car night and day on long and winding roads, ideal for evaluating performance and handling.
In between on-the-road sessions, attendees were also briefed about Dongfeng Nissan’s expectations for the model.
“Our strategy is to target second- and third-tier markets and to be the mainstream car for these markets,” said Huang Kai Feng, head of product planning for Dongfeng Nissan. “The key theme for the D50 is ‘a friend that we can trust’. It will mainly embody three qualities—it’s mature, magnanimous and reliable.”
Fitted with the 1.6 liter Nissan engine, the D50 achieves a fuel efficiency rating of 6.4 liters per 100 kilometers.
After the launch, it will be available at 100 Venucia dealerships, priced from 70,000-90,000 yuan ($11,150-$14,300).
“Venucia’s competitive advantage is its high product quality,” said Sun Cheng, of Dongfeng Nissan’s Venucia division.
“The quality is based on the technology platform of Dongfeng Nissan, and build on the quality of Dongfeng Nissan’s production line.”
Venucia will begin accepting reservations ahead of its public sales launch at the Beijing Motor show.
