Premier Class: NISMO to Unleash the GT-R for LM P1
May 23, 2014 – London – Nissan will go head-to-head in 2015 with Porsche, Audi and Toyota with a factory LM P1 team in the FIA World Endurance Championship at Le Mans 24 Hours.
After an absence of 16 years, Nissan and its motorsports arm Nismo will challenge the old guard at the historic Le Mans grid with the Nissan GT-R LM Nismo, uniting the decades-long sporting bloodline of Nismo with the legendary GT-R for a new level of performance on the track.
Nissan’s Chief Planning Officer Andy Palmer made the announcement at the Old Truman Brewery in Brick Lane, London, with Nismo President Shoichi Miyatani and Pierre Fillon, head of de l’Automobile Club de l’Ouest, which governs Le Mans.
Palmer highlighted Nismo’s new LM P1 commitment as reflective of its dedication to technological innovation in motorsports and Nissan’s leadership in electric vehicles, pioneered through the Nissan LEAF.
But in the Nissan tradition of taking road-ready technologies to the track, the innovative electric race car, the Nissan ZEOD RC, will be put to the test next month at Le Mans. Drivers Satoshi Motoyama, Lucas Ordóñez and Wolfgang Reip, who will take the wheel as the ZEOD RC team, discussed their expectations.
Le Mans test day kicks off June 1, part of week two of the #eatsleepRACErepeat program, in which Nissan and Nismo teams, drivers and entrants take on 22 events in 7 countries over as many weeks.
